For years the clubs, organizations, teachers, students and parents of the South Forsyth Community have come together during the month of October to donate canned goods and money for the annual “Food Fight” fundraiser.
The initiative was always held as a competition against West Forsyth High school to see which school could raise the most goods for various charities in Forsyth County by the end of October.
This year the fundraising campaign took a new, punchier twist: “Fight Against Hunger”

The “Fight Against Hunger” campaign was created in order to raise more money, food and awareness for charities such as The Place of Forsyth. As of this year, South made the decision to not compete against West, and focus solely on the school’s impact.
South Forsyth and their vertical alignment feeder schools participated in the event simultaneously. Among those schools were Haw Creek Elementary, Daves Creek Elementary, South Forsyth Middle School and Lakeside Middle School.
All of the proceeds and canned goods donated will directly benefit The Place of Forsyth – a local nonprofit serving Forsyth and Dawson counties with food, clothing, financial assistance and support.
Many previous criteria from the past “Food Fight” campaign remained, such as the mass donation of non-perishable food items, donation of money to SchoolPay where $1.00 is the equivalent of 1 pound of food, and the option to donate $1.00 on GoFan when purchasing football tickets.

In addition to this, South made sure to keep the grade level competitions in place, helping boost school morale and increase donations. This year, the 11 graders secured the most donations and pounds of food.
Altogether, South raised 13,233.43 pounds of food, including the money donated through SchoolPay and Gofan.
Administrator and employee of South for 25 years, Tom Wolff, expressed his deep gratitude for “Fight Against Hunger” this year, as he has worked on the original “Food Fight” campaign ever since it was initially launched at South.
“After we reached out to The Place at Forsyth, and told them our grand total, they were so overwhelmed and happy because they said they were having difficulties this year,” said Wolff. “They were really appreciative – it was so gratifying to hear how much our community helped.”
To relish in the great accomplishments more, Deborah Ross, the Director of Food and Senior Services at The Place was greeted by staff and handed the official poster with the grand total on Thursday, November 13.
