Planning Tips

Every student can attest to the fact that when tests and quizzes begin to be scheduled, they continue to pile up and up. If not organized properly, these different aspects of a students’ life can quickly begin to overwhelm them. Ranging from apps to planners, there are many ways for students to stay in-check with their busy schedule.

When using a planner, find the right type of planner for you; whether that is a monthly, weekly, large, or small planner, find one that you will continue to update. Another tip is to create a color code system; different colors can indicate upcoming tests and quizzes, club meetings, or close deadlines. In order to help with time management, at the beginning of class, establish a habit of immediately writing any important upcoming dates. This will not only keep you organized but also keep you entertained with a variety of colors. An important aspect of owning a planner is routinely checking it. Planners are not only for writing deadlines and test dates, but they are also for jotting down when you are planning to do something. In your weekly schedule, writing when to prepare for an upcoming test will allow you to efficiently space out your time and avoid cramming the night before. In high school, preparing ahead of the time will allow all your questions to be answered and help you to be more confident on test day.

Another form of a planner or agenda can be found digitally. Many other students use apps within their phone to track their busy life. Apps such as Notes,  Calendar, and Reminders allow high schoolers to record their upcoming events and also create automatic reminders for times when to study or complete an assignment.

The goal of a planner, in any form, is to reduce the number of questions and stress that appears in one’s mind when thinking of a due date. It allows for the completion of assignments on-time as well as creating a sense of responsibility as students head into adulthood.
