Picture-perfect princesses. In the cafeteria of Haw Creek Elementary, DECA members volunteer and dress up as Disney characters. The purpose of the breakfast event was to raise money for Burt’s Big Adventure. DECA was able to raise a large sum of money for the charity organization.

Children walk into the cafeteria of Haw Creek Elementary, adorned in princess gowns and superhero costumes. They sit at one of the tables in the back, eating pancakes and other breakfast foods. Some little girls choose to get a princess makeover done, finishing off with glitter hairspray. Their favorite Disney characters walk around, greeting their guests and making children’s eyes sparkle with excitement.

On Saturday, October 20th, children had the chance to fulfill their dreams of meeting their Disney heroes and dressing up like them at A Magical Morning. The event was hosted by South’s DECA in an effort to raise money for Bert’s Big Adventure, a non-profit organization that gives children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families the chance to visit Disney World for five days. DECA was able to raise about $2,000 for their efforts.

At the event, children got to eat breakfast, get princess makeovers or face paint, do Disney crafts, and take pictures with their favorite Disney characters. The event was similar to the character breakfasts that take place in the Disney parks, giving families the royal treatment and Disney feel for a tenth of the price. Admission for children 2 years and older was $10, while younger children and parents came in for free. Princess makeovers were available for an additional $5.

“I decided to do the breakfast event because I enjoy doing hair and makeup, and I was excited to do it for a good cause,” said senior Riley Halverson. “I liked watching how excited the kids got when they saw the princesses and when they were doing other activities.”

The event was supported by many local businesses, including Paint Party, Dream Dinners, Pinsperation, and i9 Sports. Bach to Rock provided the music with fun Disney songs.

The event was so successful, DECA is thinking about hosting it next year as well. They also have some other events up their sleeve for this year.

“We are also having a few events to continue raising money such as a Grub Burger Bar percentage night, Rosati’s Disney trivia night, and more” announced DECA officer Kenedy Lucas.

You can help with the cause and have some fun at the Disney trivia night, which will be hosted by the Rosati’s from 7 to 9 pm on November 6th.
