As anticipation for the busy week of Homecoming built around South, a newly revived event rose from the ashes, ready to come back better than ever: South’s annual Homecoming Parade.

We wanted to do something to celebrate all the clubs and organizations, all the sports teams, and something to really bring out school spirit,” said Tom Wolff, Assistant Principal and coordinator of the HoCo parade.

South Forsyth High School (SFHS) has been working on raising school spirit for the past couple of years. By doing more pep rallies and reintroducing the parade, school spirit has taken over, with more kids participating in HoCo week and engaging in South’s activities.

When asked about the reason for its revival, Wolff said, “This parade would be a good way to highlight all the clubs and organizations and all the groups on campus. Everyone has a good time and celebrates South spirit.”

On the day of the parade, students, family members, and South clubs lined up in the school parking lot painting banners and decorating vehicles. The different clubs were celebrated by marching with the parade and HoCo court waving at the crowd from their accessorized cars. Homecoming Court rode at the end of the parade behind their fellow students in convertibles and other vehicles generously donated for the event.

“My favorite part of the parade was seeing all the different clubs and coming together with my friends,” said Ridvee Deshpande, Vice President of the Debate club.

Spectators and family members of the HoCo court also enjoyed watching the parade.

“I liked the candy from the floats and also seeing my sister cheer; it made me proud of her,” said Amaya Edwards, sister of cheerleader Jade Edwards.

Though it may be new to some, the parade was successful in making a comeback as a South tradition. The celebration was the best way to commemorate one of the most anticipated events of the year.

Maya George, Staff Writer

Maya is a freshman hoping to pursue journalism during her time at South. She is enthusiastic to be able to write and show a new view on what she wants to share. She is hesitant about being able to get through high school in one piece. Right now she is trying to adjust to her new life as a young adult, with the challenges of being a freshman and also being an student athlete at the school. She enjoys her time with clubs, like the SFHS FBLA. Even then, she still enjoys the new environment and community that the school brings. With her work she wants to inform people with the true facts in a world where misinformation is at a high. She wants to keep doing what she loves the most, which is playing volleyball and spending time with friends and family. From going to play competitive volleyball in Orlando to staying back at home with her dog watching Grey’s Anatomy. She hopes to leave an impact and legacy with her next four years at South Forsyth.
