On Friday, Aug. 8, South Forsyth High School seniors gathered at the War Eagle Stadium to celebrate the beginning of the end.

The event, Senior Sunrise, was presented by South Forsyth High School’s (SFHS) chapter of Student Council (STUCO), and was carefully curated to create an inclusive space for all groups of seniors. The event recognized that no matter differences in friends or general interests, the intensity of senior year is something everyone experiences.

The event in total hosted around 350 seniors and celebrated the many diverse groups SFHS offers for student life.

Held early in the morning and on the fourth day of school, the event demonstrated how interconnected and dedicated the South Forsyth student body is to showing up and showing out to support the school community no matter how exhausted or drained they felt from the first week of school.

Student Council Vice President Irene Hwang described how excited she has been for this day.

“Seeing so much participation and turn-out from our seniors was such a rewarding feeling,” said Irene. “Student Council has always been about community and school spirit, so it was great to have the Class of 2026 come together and enjoy the morning with some donuts.”

Students and members were supported by STUCO staff sponsors, Anne Knight and Madison Kimbrell.

All seniors had the chance to take pictures with their friends with a Senior Sunrise photo cut-out that Student Council members and leadership designed. Many decided to hop on the trend and bring their own homemade cut-out.

Despite the early hour, groups were seen laughing and having a good time with one another. Among the most talked about topics were college planning, classes being taken, lunch periods, leaving early and so many new senior year features.

One attendee, Kamaya Dorsey, described the event as a positive way for all seniors to familiarize themselves with others they may not have previously known, as well as getting to reflect upon the path that brought everyone to that moment together.

“It was so fun to see all of the former COVID-19 middle school kids celebrating our final year together, ” said Kamaya. “It just felt so nostalgic.”

Altogether, the Class of 2026 is ready for all of the bright opportunities the year may bring. No matter what challenges arise in this final year, Senior Sunrise demonstrated that this is a wonderful community of students ready to take on anything if they can do so together.
