5 Seconds of Summer bring Halloween vibes to their new song Teeth
5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS) is a pop-rock group of four Australian boys from Sydney, New South Wales. Lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Luke Hemmings, lead guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin started their music career covering songs on YouTube until 2013 when they toured with One Direction. Since then, 5SOS has released three albums and is currently working on their fourth.
The band released its first album She Looks So Perfect in June of 2014 and it hit number one in eleven countries worldwide. After their Rock Out with Your Socks Out Tour in July of 2015, Sounds Good Feels Good was released to the public in October. The album topped charts in eight different countries. In the time between Sounds Good Feels Good and there third album, Youngblood, the group produced a movie, How Did We End Up Here, and went on tour. Youngblood finally reached the public’s ears in 2018 and became the third number one album in Australia.
Now it is 2019 and fans are awaiting a new album. Feeding their curious minds, 5SOS released Who Do You Love in February of 2019 and Easier in May of 2019. Those songs only added to fans’ anticipation. Five Seconds of Summer, working to keep the excitement up, released their newest song Teeth.
Ali Tamposi, Bernard Sumner, Carl Sturken, Evan Rogers, Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook, Ryan Tedder, Stephen Morris, Watt and 5SOS members, Luke Hemmings and Ashton Irwin, wrote this song. The writers added a spooky tone to their new song about struggles in a relationship. The singer and their romantic partner are in a love-hate relationship. The relationship being described is toxic and resulting in a lot of frustration from both parties. They are bad for each other, but they also bring a sense of familiarity and comfort. In the end, the song takes a violent turn. Blood is soaked on his shirt and he is holding a heart; whether this is metaphorical or literal is unknown. It could symbolize the death of the relationship or his final outburst on his girlfriend.
Though different from the rest of their music, 5SOS still manages to impress fans all over the world. The group has worked with many different styles and sounds throughout their musical career, but this song has not disappointed.
