The Pirouette Princess. Dancers Brady Willis (Nutcracker Prince) and Bella Bruno (Snow Queen) take part in a supported pirouette. This is when the female dancer will perform multiple turns while the male dancer spins her waist and keeps her up. This move is the pinnacle part of the Pas De Deux.

This past winter, the Sawnee School of Ballet put on their annual performance of the Nutcracker. The show was successfully performed in December, but necessary preparation for the performance began in August of 2018. I was given the chance to go deeper into the world of the production. When I went to film, the director even gave me a few costumes to steam, and I was invited to join “stretch circle” with a couple of principle dancers as they explained how much time and effort is put into the show as well as all of the joy it brings them.
